Recent firmware highlights
Bambu Lab has significantly improved LAN mode in response to community concern about cloud dependency. The current firmware supports full local control without cloud connectivity: print queue management, multi-printer control, and status monitoring, all on your local network without routing through Bambu's servers.
Developer Mode remains available for users who want full local access. See the ecosystem page for the full Authorization Control situation.
The AI-based spaghetti detection on X1C and P1S has been significantly improved. Fewer false positives (random pauses on good prints) and better detection of actual failures. The newer versions also detect warping and early layer shifts, not just the obvious spaghetti failure mode.
Speed profiles: Quick switching between Silent, Standard, Sport, and maximum speed directly from the touchscreen. Previously required re-slicing in Bambu Studio. Now it's a one-tap adjustment.
Print analytics: The printer now tracks material usage per print, success rate over time, and provides maintenance predictions based on usage hours. Useful for print farm operators and tracking filament consumption accurately.
The 2025 Authorization Control controversy
Bambu Lab's January 2025 firmware update appeared to remove LAN mode access, after significant community pushback, Bambu reversed course. LAN mode and Developer Mode remain available.
The current situation: LAN mode is available and functional. Developer Mode gives full local control without cloud dependency. The community's concern forced a more transparent policy, but the episode highlighted the risks of manufacturer-controlled firmware on network-connected printers.
How to update safely
- Check the firmware release notes before updating. Bambu Lab publishes changelogs
- Don't update mid-print or when you have time-sensitive jobs
- After any firmware update, run a full calibration (vibration compensation, bed leveling)
- Print a test object before resuming production
- If a firmware update breaks something, report it to Bambu support with your printer model and firmware version
Automatic updates: By default, Bambu printers offer firmware updates automatically. You can delay updates through the printer settings. If you're running a production environment, test firmware updates on one machine before rolling out to all printers.
Checking your version: Go to Settings ? Machine ? About on the printer touchscreen, or check in Bambu Studio under Device ? printer name.
Rolling back: Bambu Lab does not officially support firmware downgrading. Contact Bambu support if an update causes problems. Community downgrade methods exist for specific versions but are unsupported and may void warranty.
