Which Bambu Lab printer is right for me?

For most people: the A1 ($399). Good print quality, easy to use, enough build volume for 90% of projects. If you need ABS, ASA, or engineering materials, get the X2D ($649): active 65°C chamber, dual nozzle, 25-color AMS 2.0, and the best value in the enclosed tier.

You print decorations, cosplay accessories, figures, gifts. Quality matters; exotic materials don't.

Best pick: A1 or A1 Mini. The A1's cooling gives sharp details in PLA. The A1 Mini works if you only print smaller objects. Neither needs an enclosure for 95% of what you'll print.

You need parts that work: brackets, enclosures, gears, jigs. Strength and material variety matter.

Best pick: X2D ($649). Active 65°C chamber, dual nozzle for support materials, and 25-color AMS 2.0 make it the best-value enclosed printer. Need 350°C for PA-CF or PC? Step up to the H2S.

You want colorful models without painting. The AMS enables automatic filament switching.

Best pick: X2D or A1 + AMS Lite. X2D with AMS 2.0 supports up to 25 colors in an enclosed machine, ideal for detailed multi-color engineering parts. A1 + AMS Lite does 4 colors at a much lower cost for pure hobby printing.

Selling prints or running high volume. Reliability and cost-per-print matter most.

Best pick: Multiple A1s or H2S. Three A1s cost less than one X1C and give triple the throughput. For single-machine high volume, the H2S at 1000mm/s is the better choice.

You enjoy upgrading and customizing. Stock is just a starting point.

Best pick: P1P (if you can find one used). Open frame = easy mods. Same CoreXY mechanics as the P1S at lower cost. The P1P is discontinued; buy used or consider the P1S with panels removed.

You need quiet operation and minimal fumes. Neighbors are a factor.

Best pick: P1S or X1C. The enclosure reduces noise and contains fumes. The HEPA + activated carbon filter handles ABS/ASA particulates and VOCs. A1 series is noisier due to open design.

  • Don't buy the A1 Mini if you print large things. The 180×180×180mm volume limits you. The A1 is only $100 more and significantly more versatile.
  • Don't buy the P1P new. It's discontinued and the P2S at $549 is better value.
  • Don't buy the H2D unless you specifically need dual nozzle or the laser. The H2S is $650 cheaper and nearly as capable for single-material printing.
  • Don't buy an X1C if you only print PLA. The P2S delivers similar speeds at half the price. And if you want an enclosed machine with modern features, the X2D at $649 beats the X1C on specs at $550 less.
