Bambu Lab and Insta360 Launch the Luna Ultra Design Challenge

Bambu Lab and Insta360 are running the Luna Ultra Design Challenge on MakerWorld from July 10 to August 9, 2026. Insta360 published official 3MF and STL files of its new Luna Ultra camera, so anyone can design precision-fit printed accessories without reverse-engineering the body. Two entry tracks: upload a printable design to MakerWorld (#PrintForLuna), or post gear ideas on social media. The prize pool totals $11,160 in products and coupons; top entries win a Luna Ultra plus a Bambu Lab X2D Combo or A2L Combo. Winners are announced August 20.
What this is
Announced on July 10, this is an official co-marketing collaboration between Bambu Lab and Insta360, and a first for MakerWorld: Insta360 becomes the first camera brand with an official brand page on the platform, and it is shipping real design files rather than just a hashtag. The official 3MF and STL geometry of the Luna Ultra body is free to download, which means mounts, rigs and cosmetic mods can be designed to fit exactly, no calipers or guesswork required. Community designs print directly via MakerWorld's 1-click flow in the Bambu Handy app.
The Luna Ultra itself is Insta360's new flagship: a dual-lens 8K gimbal camera co-engineered with Leica, launched in June 2026 and weighing just over 200 g, which makes it a natural candidate for lightweight printed accessories.

Track A: Model Design
For designers and engineers. Download the official Luna Ultra files on MakerWorld, design printable gear, and upload it tagged #PrintForLuna. Two judged categories: Practical Add-ons (stability mounts, filming rigs, creator tools) and Creative Mods (aesthetic covers, holiday themes, stylistic upgrades).
Track B: Social Content
For creators and filmmakers, no CAD required. Post original Luna Ultra gear, DIY modifications, hand-drawn concepts or accessory ideas on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook or Reddit (r/Insta360), shot on any equipment, tagged #PrintForLuna #BambuLab #Insta360LunaUltra.
You can enter either track or both.
Prizes and dates
Top creators receive the flagship pairing from both companies: an Insta360 Luna Ultra camera together with a Bambu Lab X2D Combo or A2L Combo. Both printers are 2026 releases, so the hardware on the table is current, not clearance stock. Bambu and Insta360 also say they will make regular prize announcements during the window, and that the best ideas from either track may be developed further, with a shot at becoming official products.
Entering from a Bambu printer?
Any Bambu machine works for Track A; the printed parts are small enough for an A1 mini. Grab the official files from the MakerWorld contest page, check the submission rules there, and make sure your upload carries the #PrintForLuna tag or it will not be counted.
Our take
This is co-marketing, and it reads like it. But the substance holds up: official, dimensionally accurate files for a current flagship camera are genuinely useful, and they stay useful after the contest ends. Camera gear is one of the areas where home 3D printing already earns its keep, and precision-fit files from the manufacturer beat community-measured models every time. If the model catches on, expect other hardware brands to follow Insta360 onto MakerWorld with official geometry, which would be a quiet win for everyone who prints.
