Bambu Studio 2.8.1 Beta: Decompose Color and E3D Nozzle Support

Short version
Bambu Studio 2.8.1 Public Beta (July 14, 2026) is an incremental update on top of the 2.8.0 Beta, with three additions worth knowing: Decompose Color, which works out the best filament mix to hit a target color from what you already own; E3D High Flow nozzle support for the H2 series, X2D and P2S; and device-page filament management that ties your Filament Manager to physical AMS slots. It is still a beta, so keep a stable build around if you print for deadlines.
Decompose Color: match a color from the filament you own
The headline feature is Decompose Color. Point it at a target color and Studio calculates the optimal combination of filaments to reproduce it, drawn from your own filament list rather than asking you to buy a specific spool. In this beta it supports CMYW and RYBW combinations of Bambu PLA Basic. For textured models, Studio matches your filament library automatically and generates the decomposition scheme with no manual setup.

Why it matters: multicolor printing usually means owning the exact colors a model calls for. Decomposing a target into a mix you already have turns "I don't have that shade" into "I can get close with these four," which is a real saving for anyone printing art, textures or gradients on an AMS setup.
E3D High Flow nozzle support
Studio 2.8.1 adds a new "E3D High Flow" nozzle type for compatible machines: the H2D, H2S, H2C left head, X2D and P2S. It is limited to 0.4mm and 0.6mm diameters for now and shows up as its own option in the sidebar. It is a small entry, but a notable one: an official slicer profile for a well-known third-party hotend brand is a step toward the wider ecosystem many owners have asked for. Treat it as first-party recognition of E3D hardware rather than a full open-nozzle policy.

Filament management on the device page
The third addition connects the software Filament Manager to the physical printer. You can bind filaments to editable device slots, see each filament's mount status and which device it currently sits in, and create or bind spools directly when loading unmounted Bambu filament from the device interface. For anyone juggling several printers and a wall of spools, it cuts down the guesswork about what is loaded where.
The smaller changes
Beyond the three headliners, 2.8.1 brings a redesigned Preferences page, assembly-guide enhancements (object splitting and merging, face-to-face and point-to-point alignment) that extend the 2.8.0 assembly tool, H2D Filament Track Switch support (needs firmware 01.03.50.00 or higher), manual mixing-ratio entry for layered colors, better flush-time estimation on the H2D, and portable operation mode. The release notes also list fixes for 14 issues, including first-layer raft sagging and a slicing crash tied to color-painted modifiers.
Should you install it?
It is still a public beta
Keep a stable build (2.7.1.62) alongside 2.8.1 if you print for deadlines or a shop. Beta 3MF files from the 2.8.x line can still hit upload quirks with MakerWorld.
