Bambu Studio 2.8.2: Pause Points and the 2.8 Line Goes Stable

The headline feature: if a print job contains pause points (for inserting magnets, nuts or color swaps by hand), the progress bar now shows how many there are, how many have triggered, and where the next ones sit. Hovering a marker shows the estimated time until that pause, so you can plan to actually be at the printer instead of discovering a paused job an hour later.

A shorter prime tower to save filament

Multicolor prints that only change color in the upper layers still waste a full-height prime tower today. 2.8.2 adds a "No sparse layers" option (under Others > Prime Tower, after enabling Developer Mode) that skips tower layers where no filament change happens, so the tower only exists near the heights where colors actually swap.

It is explicitly experimental: the tower position relative to the model matters, and because the Z axis moves slowly, returning from a shortened tower can increase the risk of oozing or stringing. Worth testing on decorative prints where a little stringing is acceptable and filament savings add up; skip it for deadline work.

What the betas delivered, now stable

If you skipped the beta cycle, 2.8.2 rolls up two months of features in one supported build. The short list: the assembly guide creator from 2.8.0 (now with undo and redo), Decompose Color and E3D High Flow nozzle support from 2.8.1, and device-page filament management that ties your filament library to physical AMS slots. A2L owners get honest time estimates

Two A2L-specific additions, both requiring A2L firmware 01.01.01.00 or newer. Print time estimates now account for which AMS type is connected, and you can calibrate load and unload times to your own PTFE tube length. Studio also visualizes the A2L's first-layer thermal preconditioningThe A2L holds the heatbed at target temperature before auto bed leveling to stabilize the first layer. How long that takes depends on where the model sits on the plate. areas, so you can see how model placement affects the added wait time before a print starts.

The quiet reliability work

The sleeper feature of this release: when the Bambu cloud service is unreachable or unstable, Studio now automatically tries switching to LAN mode to keep the print submission going. After July's repeated cloud incidents, an automatic local fallback is exactly the kind of resilience owners have been asking for. Alongside it: smarter filament mapping on the send-to-print page, a preference for the emptier of two identical spools, PET-CF overhang tuning, and Helio simulation stability.

Fixes worth knowing about

Of the 21 fixes, a few address long-standing annoyances: the Pressure Advance value that always displayed "Default" regardless of your setting (an issue open since 2024), an intermittent crash on save that could silently lose work, a Google account login loop when downloading models, tree supports generating roots in mid-air, and the Mac-only blank window when opening Filament Manager.
