Should I buy the X1E?

The X1E is discontinued. It was built for enterprise and engineering teams that needed an active chamber plus secure, off-cloud networking. If you specifically need those enterprise controls (Ethernet, WPA2-Enterprise, LAN-only operation), look for a used or clearance unit. For a new machine with an active heated chamber, the H2S ($1,249) and H2D ($1,899) are the current picks; the X2D ($649) is the direct X1-series successor with a 65°C active chamber for far less.

The X1E was Bambu's answer to enterprise and engineering buyers who liked the X1 Carbon but needed more: an actively heated 60°C chamber for demanding materials, a 320°C hardened-steel hotend, and a security and networking stack aimed at IT departments: Ethernet, WPA2-Enterprise Wi-Fi, physical kill-switches, and the ability to run fully off-cloud on a local network. At $2,499 it was priced for organizations, not hobbyists.

Its real differentiators were the active chamber and the enterprise controls. The 60°C heated chamber made ABS, ASA and higher-temperature engineering filaments far more reliable than the passive X1 Carbon, while LAN-only operation and kill-switches addressed data-security requirements that ruled out cloud-connected printers in some environments.

Now that it is discontinued, its role is filled by the H-series. The H2S ($1,249) and H2D ($1,899) both offer an active 65°C chamber, higher 350°C temps and larger build volumes, and the X2D ($649) is the direct X1-series successor with a 65°C active chamber. Buy a used or clearance X1E only if you specifically need its off-cloud enterprise networking package.

The X1E was the only Bambu printer built specifically for corporate IT environments. Its enterprise package covered the requirements that keep cloud-connected consumer printers out of secure networks:

Active chamber for ABS/ASA: Let the chamber reach 60°C before starting. Unlike passive enclosures, the X1E actively heats, so warping risk drops significantly on large engineering parts. Set the bed to 100°C for ABS.

Lidar calibration: Let the full first-layer Lidar scan run on every print. It adds a couple of minutes but catches bed offset issues before you waste filament.

LAN-only / off-cloud mode: Enable LAN Only in Settings to run without any cloud connection. Combined with Ethernet and the kill-switches, this keeps the X1E inside a restricted network. Connect Orca Slicer via local IP and access code.

WPA2-Enterprise: For 802.1X corporate networks, enter the enterprise credentials in the network setup rather than a plain Wi-Fi password. Wired Ethernet is the more reliable option in managed environments.

What replaced the X1E? There is no one-for-one replacement. For an active heated chamber, the H2S ($1,249) and H2D ($1,899) are the current engineering picks, and the X2D ($649) is the direct X1-series successor with a 65°C active chamber. None fully replicate the X1E's off-cloud enterprise networking package.

X1E or X1 Carbon? Both are discontinued. The X1E added an active 60°C chamber, a 320°C hotend and enterprise networking over the passive X1 Carbon. If you need those, the X1E was the one to have; otherwise the cheaper X1C covered the same core platform.

Why was it so expensive? The $2,499 price reflected the enterprise positioning: active chamber, 320°C hardened hotend, and the networking/security stack aimed at corporate IT. It was priced for organizations, not hobbyists.

Can I still run it off-cloud? Yes. The X1E's LAN-only operation, Ethernet, WPA2-Enterprise and physical kill-switches still work on existing units. That off-cloud capability is the main reason to seek out a used or clearance X1E today.
