Which one should I buy?

Quick answer: Nearly the same footprint, wildly different machines: the A2L gives you 330 x 320 x 325 mm open for $469; the H2S gives you 340 x 320 x 340 mm enclosed, actively heated, 1,000 mm/s and 350C for $1,199 (list $1,249). The H2S is the A2L for people whose materials need walls.

A2L

  • Big decorative/functional PLA/PETG prints
  • Budget XL, first large-format printer
  • Laser/cutting is not on your list (or the plotter suffices)

H2S

  • Engineering materials at size (PA, PC, filled)
  • Throughput matters: 1,000 mm/s and active chamber
  • The 10W laser option would get used

If you only print PLA and PETG, the A2L delivers almost identical volume for 39% of the H2S price, and that is the comparison Bambu quietly invites with the A2L. The H2S justifies its price the moment materials or throughput matter: an actively heated 65C chamber, a 350C hotend for engineering filaments, roughly double the speed, AMS 2 Pro, and the optional 10W laser.

A useful rule: hobby XL = A2L, working XL = H2S. The middle ground does not exist in Bambu's lineup; between $469 and $1,199 you are choosing smaller enclosed printers instead.

A used X1C gives you enclosed printing with LiDAR around the A2L price, but in the small 256 mm format. If XL volume is the point, the X1C is not the answer.
