OrcaSlicer 2.5 Brings the H2C and A2L, Now as a Release Candidate
Short version
OrcaSlicer 2.5.0 is the first OrcaSlicer version with printer profiles for the Bambu Lab H2C and A2L: first as an alpha (October 16, 2026), then a beta (October 27) and, since November 1, a release candidate that OrcaSlicer calls "stable enough for everyday use". The current stable, 2.4.2 from July 7, has neither printer; the support has been in the nightly builds since July 13. 2.5 also lets the two nozzles of an H2D or X2D be different sizes and can start and stop drying on an AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT. The release candidate fixes the beta's crash on the Device tab and several Bambu connection bugs (see the update below), but it is still marked as a pre-release, and its notes still do not call the Filament Track Switch support tested on hardware. If you own an H2C or A2L and want OrcaSlicer, install the release candidate and back up your profiles first. Everyone else can wait for the final 2.5.0, which the notes call nearly ready.
Update November 1, 2026: the 2.5.0 release candidate is out
OrcaSlicer published the 2.5.0 release candidate on November 1, still marked as a pre-release, and calls it "stable enough for everyday use". Its notes add no Bambu printer profile and give no date for the final 2.5.0. For Bambu owners, per the release notes:
- Beta crash fixed. The Device tab no longer crashes with Bambu's default network plug-in 02.08.04 when the printer has a print job (#16973), the crash described under the beta update below. Closing OrcaSlicer while a Bambu printer is connected over LAN no longer crashes either (#17087).
- Reconnects after a restart. OrcaSlicer remembers the last Bambu printer and reconnects at startup, a LAN printer right away and a cloud printer once the printer list arrives, and keeps the filaments it synced from the AMS (#17086). Custom filament presets now stay in their AMS slot on sync instead of being replaced by the system preset (#16986).
- Right nozzle on dual-nozzle printers. On the H2D, X2D and H2C, Filament-Saving Mode now puts each filament on the nozzle it is loaded on, so the print dialog no longer maps it to a slot with the wrong color or to no slot (#17074).
- H2C with a decimal comma. With the interface in a language such as German, the H2C print dialog no longer claims there are not enough hotends when the right ones are installed (#17079).
- Clearer LAN error. Error -1 on a LAN connection now says what to check: the same network, the IP address, another network plug-in version, and the printer.cer certificate (#16273).
Check older multi-filament projects. In Filament for Features, a feature left on Default now always prints with the object's own filament. Before, picking a filament for infill or a top or bottom surface could switch other Default features to it as well (#17058). If an older project relied on that, set those features to the filament you want.
Update October 28, 2026: the 2.5.0 Beta is out
OrcaSlicer published the 2.5.0 Beta on October 27, again marked as a pre-release and with profiles for the same 14 Bambu printers as the alpha. Among its changes for Bambu owners, per its release notes:
- H2C nozzle rack. The H2C now recognizes when a rack hotend already holds the requested filament, and the Device tab names the filament in each rack nozzle (#16612, the fix that missed the alpha).
- Calibration with a Filament Track Switch. On an H2C, H2D or X2D with the switch, the Flow Dynamics calibration page lists each AMS under both nozzles, as in Bambu Studio, and calibrates a filament on the nozzle you picked it for (#16632).
- Readable printer errors. HMS errors on the X2D, A2L and H2C show their message and code instead of "Unknown error." (#16267).
- Exhaust fan. The filament Exhaust fan settings are back on the X1, X1 Carbon, P1S, P2S, H2D, H2D Pro, H2S and X2D, also in projects saved with the alpha, so filaments that use air filtration run the fan again as in 2.4.2 (#16792).
- Toolhead collision volumes. A printer profile can now mark obstacles above the bed, such as tool docks or camera arms, and Arrange, brims, most supports and travel moves keep clear of them (#13777). The pull request adds no volumes to Bambu's profiles, and the beta has no profile for the H3C tool changer Bambu has announced.
- Smaller Bambu fixes. Custom AMS colors take an opacity and, where the firmware supports it, a gradient of up to four colors (#16538); clicking the color of a Bambu filament opens Bambu's official color list instead of the generic picker (#16706); a LAN print no longer disconnects and reconnects the printer, which could crash OrcaSlicer (#16271); and cloud features that did nothing, such as firmware information on the Device tab and rating a print on MakerWorld, now work (#15908).
Known crash, added October 29, 2026, fixed in the November 1 release candidate. With Bambu's network plug-in 02.08.04, the default in OrcaSlicer, the 2.5.0 Beta crashes as soon as the Device tab connects to a printer that has a current or last print job. The report (issue #16949) came from an H2D connected through Bambu Cloud on Linux; the developer who fixed it says the cause is not specific to that printer or operating system, and that the alpha is not affected. The fix (#16973) was merged on October 28 and is in the nightly builds, not in the beta download. It is among the fixes picked for 2.5.0-rc1 (#16946), which names no release date. Until then, switching the network plug-in to 02.03.00 avoids the crash, at the cost of features that need the newer plug-in, such as print-failure snapshots in the error dialog.
The H2C feed failure report (#16584) was closed on October 23 without a closing comment and is not in the beta's notes, so whether it is fixed is open. The notes also do not say whether the Filament Track Switch support has now been tested on hardware, and they name no date for the stable 2.5.0. Our advice stands: on a printer that 2.4.2 already supports, stay on 2.4.2 until the stable 2.5.0. If you own an H2C or A2L and want to try 2.5 now, we would take the beta over the alpha because it carries the fixes above, with the network plug-in on 02.03.00 until a release includes #16973; that is our reading of the notes and the bug report, not a test.

Which Bambu printers each version supports
OrcaSlicer's release notes list the H2C and A2L among the new features. To see exactly what changed for Bambu owners, we compared the Bambu machine profiles in OrcaSlicer's source code at the two release tags. Version 2.4.2 carries profiles for twelve Bambu printers. The 2.5.0 Alpha adds the A2L and the H2C and removes none. We have not run the alpha on an H2C or A2L ourselves: everything on this page comes from the release notes, the source code and OrcaSlicer's GitHub tracker.
| Bambu printer | 2.4.2 stable (Jul 7, 2026) | 2.5.0 Alpha (Oct 16, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| A2L | No profile | Profile, new |
| H2C | No profile | Profile, new |
| The other 12: A1 mini, A1, P1P, P1S, P2S, X1, X1 Carbon, X1E, X2D, H2S, H2D, H2D Pro | Profile | Profile |
The code behind the two new profiles is not new. The pull request that adds H2C and A2L machine support (#14685) was merged on July 13, 2026, six days after 2.4.2 shipped, so every nightly build since then has carried it. What changes with the alpha is that the support now ships in a numbered release with release notes. OrcaSlicer describes its nightly builds as works in progress that may contain bugs or unstable features, and the alpha and the beta carry similar warnings of their own.
- July 7OrcaSlicer 2.4.2, the current stable release, without H2C and A2L profiles.
- July 13H2C and A2L machine support merged (#14685), in the nightly builds from then on.
- July 22Per-slot purge tracking for the H2C rack merged (#14800).
- October 8Mixed nozzle sizes for the H2D and X2D merged (#14125).
- October 162.5.0 Alpha published, marked as a pre-release.
- October 17First H2C bug report against the alpha (#16584, feed failure).
- October 20H2C nozzle rack filament ID fix merged (#16612), not in the alpha download.
- October 22Calibration page fix for the Filament Track Switch merged (#16632).
- October 23#16584 closed, with no comment on whether it is fixed.
- October 272.5.0 Beta published, again a pre-release, with #16612 and #16632.
- October 28Fix for a beta crash with the 02.08.04 network plug-in merged (#16973), not in the beta download.
- November 12.5.0 release candidate published, still a pre-release, with the crash fix #16973.
What the H2C gets, and what is untested
For the H2C the notes promise full support, including pre-heating and cooling and multi-color and multi-material printing with the nozzle-changing rack (background: how the H2C and its rack work). The part that matters for filament use: OrcaSlicer tracks which filament sits in each rack nozzle and only purges a nozzle when its filament changes, which, the notes say, keeps filament use and print time close to Bambu Studio's. That tracking is a port of Bambu Studio's own per-slot purge tracking (#14800, merged July 22). The notes give the A2L the same pre-heating and cooling support and say nothing more specific about it.
Four limits, stated in the notes themselves or visible on GitHub in the days after the release:
- Filament Track Switch: untested. Support for Bambu's switch is ported, the notes say, but has not been tested on hardware yet. If your H2C, H2D or X2D runs with the switch, you are the test. The beta's notes (October 27) do not say whether that has changed. What the switch does and does not do: our Filament Track Switch article.
- A feed failure on an H2C, closed without a stated fix. On October 17 a user reported that print jobs sliced in 2.5.0-alpha fail on an H2C with "Failed to feed filament to the extruder" (error 07FE-8028-083217), both with the rack nozzles unloaded and with the correct filament preloaded (issue #16584). It was closed on October 23 without a closing comment, and the beta's notes do not mention it, so whether it is fixed is open.
- One H2C fix is already newer than the alpha. While looking into that report, a contributor found that OrcaSlicer sent the printer its own filament IDs instead of Bambu's in the request that matches filaments to rack nozzles, so the printer could never match a filament to the rack nozzle that already holds it (#16612). It affects Bambu's own system filaments only. The fix was merged on October 20, four days after the alpha, so it is in the nightly builds and the 2.5.0 Beta, but not in the alpha download. According to the pull request, it is not the cause of the feed failure above.
- Calibration with the switch. With a Filament Track Switch installed, the Flow Dynamics calibration page lists every AMS under the right nozzle and offers only the external spool on the left, while Bambu Studio lists each AMS under both. A fix (#16632) was merged on October 22 and is in the 2.5.0 Beta.
For the A2L we found no issue on OrcaSlicer's GitHub since the alpha came out (search on October 21). That is no proof that it works, only that nobody has reported a problem there yet.
Mixed nozzle sizes on the H2D and X2D
The other Bambu headline is for the two dual-nozzle printers. The left and right nozzles of an H2D or X2D can now be different sizes, for example a 0.2 mm nozzle for fine outer walls and a 0.8 mm nozzle for fast infill, the notes' own example. You set each diameter in the sidebar or the printer settings, and OrcaSlicer works out line widths, infill, supports and ironing from the nozzle each filament prints with. This one is recent: it was merged on October 8 (#14125), so it spent about a week in the nightly builds before the alpha.
Ported from Bambu Studio alongside it: each nozzle on a Bambu dual-nozzle printer gets a Flow choice, Standard or High Flow, and speeds, motion limits and many other process and printer settings can be set separately for each nozzle and flow type. Filament profiles can carry their own pressure advance, fan and temperature values for each nozzle variant; profiles that store a single value keep applying it to every variant.
Smaller changes for every Bambu owner
- AMS drying. Start, watch and stop filament drying on an AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT from the Device tab, by clicking the AMS humidity indicator. Ported from Bambu Studio.
- Network plug-in. OrcaSlicer supports Bambu's 02.08 network plug-in series and defaults to 02.08.04, which, the notes say, also loads on macOS 27; plug-in updates apply without a restart. The Device tab adds newer firmware options such as timelapse storage and stopping a filament change, and OrcaSlicer warns when a filament will switch extruders mid-print.
- 3MF by default. Bambu Lab profiles now enable "Use 3MF instead of G-code", so third-party hosts such as SimplyPrint get a .gcode.3mf again, as before 2.4.0. Plain G-code is one setting away in the printer settings.
- Profiles synced with Bambu Studio. Bambu presets, covers and bed models match Bambu Studio's, including the latest X2D machine G-code; OrcaSlicer's own P2S tuning stays.
- New filament IDs. Every filament product now has its own ID. AMS slots and calibration results saved with an old ID match by filament type until you reselect the filament, so look over your AMS slot assignments after the upgrade.
- Third-party filament presets moved. About 700 presets tuned for Bambu printers, for Polymaker, BETA, COEX, Overture, add:north, Numakers, FusRock and AliZ filament, moved to the Orca Filament Library with names and settings unchanged.
- Two fixes worth knowing. With Fan speed-up time or Fan kick-start time set, the Change filament G-code no longer gains a travel move that drove a P1S toolhead into the motor housing (issue #15789). On the H2D, Arrange no longer pushes objects partly off the plate (issue #15727).
Plugins run code on your computer
The feature OrcaSlicer leads with, Python plugins, is not Bambu-specific, but it changes what you install. A plugin can add one-click scripts, step into slicing to reshape layers or rewrite the G-code, and add its own tab or panel; it comes as a file or through Orca Cloud. According to the notes, a plugin must ask your permission before it reaches outside OrcaSlicer's data folder, goes online or starts other programs, and the plugin system is new, with an API that may still change. Treat a plugin like any other program you download: from authors you trust, with that permission prompt read rather than clicked away.
Should you install it?
Our take
Install it if your printer needs it, not before
For an H2C or A2L owner who wants OrcaSlicer, the November 1 release candidate is now the build to use: it carries the beta's fixes and the crash fix that missed the beta. It is still a pre-release, so back up the projects and profiles you care about and keep Bambu Studio installed for the prints that have to work. On every printer that 2.4.2 already supports, nothing here is urgent.
- H2C owners. The release candidate is the most finished build with your printer: it has the rack fix from the beta and the Device tab crash fix. If you print through a Filament Track Switch, wait: the notes have not called that path tested on hardware, and the feed failure (#16584) came from an H2C with a switch.
- A2L owners. Same profile situation, no bug reports yet. Worth a try on a model that does not matter.
- H2D and X2D owners. Only the mixed nozzle sizes are new for you, and that code was a week old when the alpha shipped. Try it if you have the second nozzle size on hand, otherwise wait.
- Everyone else. Stay on 2.4.2 until the stable 2.5.0. The release candidate's notes call it nearly ready but name no date.
For comparison, Bambu Studio's current build is 2.9.1 (stable, November 3), which folds in the 2.8.3 and 2.8.4 betas and gives mixed nozzle sizes to the H3C first; our 2.9.1 notes cover what changed there. If you run OrcaSlicer in LAN mode, our Bambu Connect explainer covers the authorization rules that decide how third-party slicers reach the printer.
Common questions
Does OrcaSlicer support the Bambu Lab H2C?
Yes, from version 2.5.0 Alpha (October 16, 2026), and in the nightly builds since July 13, 2026. The stable 2.4.2 has no H2C profile. Support for the Filament Track Switch is ported but, according to the release notes, not yet tested on hardware. The release candidate of November 1, 2026 is the most finished build so far.
Does OrcaSlicer support the Bambu Lab A2L?
Yes, from the same 2.5.0 Alpha; the stable 2.4.2 has no A2L profile. We found no A2L bug report on OrcaSlicer's GitHub between the alpha's release and October 21, 2026.
Can the H2D use two different nozzle sizes in OrcaSlicer?
In the 2.5.0 Alpha, yes: the left and right nozzles of an H2D or X2D can be different sizes, for example 0.2 mm and 0.8 mm, and OrcaSlicer works out line widths, infill, supports and ironing from the nozzle each filament prints with. The stable 2.4.2 does not offer it.
