P1P
DiscontinuedThe P1P was Bambu's open-frame mid-tier machine: same 256mm build volume and core motion system as the P1S but without the enclosure. Discontinued in 2024–2025, replaced by the P2S.
Should I buy the P1P?
The P1P is discontinued. If you need an open-frame CoreXY, buy a used one or consider the P2S ($549), which is enclosed, faster, and actually cheaper than the P1P was new.

The P1P launched alongside the P1S in 2022/2023 as the open-frame variant of the P-series: P1S motion system and print quality at a lower price for users who didn't need the enclosure. In practice, it sat in an awkward position. It cost $699, the same as the P1S, but without the enclosure, HEPA filtration, or passive chamber heating advantage. Users increasingly chose the P1S for the same money or the A1 series for less.
The P2S launched in October 2025: faster at 600 mm/s, enclosed, and $150 cheaper than the P1P was. Bambu discontinued the P1P. There is no scenario where a new P1P makes sense in 2026: the P2S beats it in every relevant spec at a lower price.
Pros (historical)
- CoreXY motion system at P-series quality
- 256mm build volume
- Full AMS compatible (up to 16 colors)
- Good ecosystem integration (Orca, Bambu app)
- 110°C bed despite open frame
Cons
- Discontinued. No longer sold new
- No enclosure: ABS/ASA unreliable
- No HEPA/carbon filtration
- Was priced the same as the P1S, poor value
- P2S is better, cheaper, and available now
| Material | Support | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PLA / PLA+ | Excellent | Works great. Default material. |
| PETG | Good | Works well. Use glue on PEI. |
| TPU | Supported | Direct drive handles TPU well. |
| PLA-CF / PETG-CF | Hardened nozzle needed | Abrasive materials. Swap nozzle. |
| ABS | Not recommended | No enclosure = warping. Community enclosure mods help somewhat. |
| ASA | Not recommended | Same issue as ABS. |
| PA / PC | Not supported | Needs enclosure and higher chamber temp. |
Your printer still works. Bambu still provides firmware updates (as of 2026) and community support is solid. The P1P uses the same platform as the P1S and shares most consumables and upgrades.
Consumables: Nozzles, extruder parts, PEI plates, and hotend components for the P1P are the same as the P1S. Both use the Bambu P-series nozzle system and remain widely available through Bambu's store and third parties.
Should I upgrade to a P2S? Only if the P1P's limitations are actually affecting your printing. If it's working well for PLA and PETG, there's no urgent reason to replace it. Wait for a sale if you do decide to upgrade.
Adding an enclosure: Several community-designed enclosures exist on Printables and Thangs for the P1P. A rigid transparent enclosure can bring chamber temps up to 35–40°C, making ABS printing more reliable, not as good as a sealed P2S, but a workable intermediate solution.
P1P vs P2S? P2S wins in every meaningful spec and costs $150 less. There is no scenario where you should choose a new P1P over a P2S in 2026.
Where can I buy a P1P? No longer sold new by Bambu Lab. May be available second-hand on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or r/3Dprintingdeals. Verify firmware is current before buying used.
Is Orca Slicer compatible? Yes. Enable LAN Only Mode + Developer Mode in settings. The P1P is fully supported in current Orca Slicer versions.
Does the P1P work with full AMS? Yes, unlike the A1/A1 Mini which use AMS Lite, the P1P supports the full AMS for up to 16 colors.
